Before starting my article I will like to say a few words about health.

“Every human being is the author of his own health or disease.”
“He, who has health, has hope. And he, who has hope, has everything.”
“It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.”

For my recent Health (Drug Education) report, I had to write all about marijuana in an outline-like form. I would like to share it with you.

Drug Classification:

Hallucinogen

Cannabis Sativa (hemp plant)

Slang Terms:

There are more than two hundred slang terms, but some of them include:

Pot, weed, grass, mary jane, reefer, chronic, aunt mary, skunk, bud, boom, ganja, Texas tea, herb, dope, roach, hemp, dagga, bhang, J, white widow, home grown, astro turf, hashish, chocolate, hash, duby…

Origin:

From Central and South Asia.

How is it made?:

Green, brown, or gray mixture of dried, shredded leaves, stems, seeds, and flowers of the Indian Cannabis plant.

The dried leaves are smoked as a cigarette (joint), blunt, or in a pipe (bong).

History, unusual facts or interesting information:

Evidence of inhalation of cannabis smoke can be found as far back as the third millennium BC.

Seeds were found at an ancient burial site in present day Romania.

Used by ancient Hindus and Nihang Sikhs of India and Nepal thousands of years ago.

Pipes dug up from the garden of William Shakespeare’s home in Stratford upon Avon contain traces of cannabis.

There are techniques to making the drug stronger which increases emergency room visits. In addition to growers of the plant making the drug stronger, marijuana is ten times more potent today because of a high level of mercury.

Short Term Side Effects: Drowsiness, red eyes, increased appetite, loss of coordination, distorted vision hearing and sense of time, increased heart rate and poor memory.

Long Term Side Effects: Psychotic symptoms, growth disorders, lung damage, reduced ability to learn and retain information and heart damage.

Even though marijuana is illegal in most of the world, it is legal in the use of medicine in Canada, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Israel, Italy, Finland, and Portugal.

Form of the drug and how they are taken into the body:

Joint: This is the cigarette form, which totals to one joint equaling about ten cigarettes, with fifty percent more tar.

Blunt: This is a hallowed out cigar that is filled with the plant.

Pipes and Bongs: This is a water pipe or a bong is used by smoke bubbling in a chamber containing water.

Steam boating: This is smoking marijuana through a cardboard tube or homemade device.

Baked form: This is when the maker cooks marijuana into any type of food.

Medical uses:

Decreases nausea and vomiting

Given to AIDs and chemotherapy patients for the stimulation of hunger.

Given to people who have glaucoma, when pressure inside the eye becomes too high.

Pain reliever.

Are there any withdrawal symptoms?

Insomnia: The person will have the inability to obtain efficient sleep.

Hyperactivity: The person will be highly or excessively active.

Decrease in activity: The person will quit any activities they are in and not socialize with friends or even enjoy the company of friends or their family.
